I love organizing. My favorite part of moving is starting in a fresh new kitchen and placing everything where I think it will be most functional. I know, this is not what a lot of people would call fun, but I know there are other crazies out there, too. (My aunt would be one of them. It’s our family’s gift and curse.)
For my other fellow organized friends who are engaged or getting ready to bring in a new baby, I have some great news. The Container Store now has their very own registry!! I think if I were getting married, one of our registries would be The Container Store.
If you are like me, I am not in NYC and I won’t be indulging in the many amazing shopping opportunities in New York or even Los Angeles. BUT that doesn’t mean I can’t shop watch from home!! The first ever live stream held from Macy’s Herald Square will be a star studded event, tonight for Fashion Night Out. It starts at 3PM PT/6PM ET
No matter what shape, size or color, I think everyone should be comfortable and confident in their own skin. We have some tips from the girls from TLC’s Big Sexy for plus size girls, but really there are just a lot of plain good fashion tips to make any girl feel like beautiful person she is.
Do not avoid tailored, woven fabrics: A lot of plus-size women avoid woven fabric because it has little to no stretch; however, clothing like pencil skirts and tailored jackets make plus-size women look amazing. The tailored look can make you look thinner, more toned and professional. With the sharper lines and better structure, people will take you more seriously. Knitted clothing (which has a lot of stretch) tends to look a bit too casual for most settings. – Audrey Curry, makeup artist and aspiring fashion designer
Shoulder pads look awesome on curvy women: Many women generally stay away from shoulder pads, but plus-size women with larger hips should embrace the strong shoulder look. Naturally, a woman’s shoulders should be a little wider than their hips. Shoulder pads, which come in all shapes and sizes, can make a large woman look more proportional and thinner. It’s best to experiment! Shoulder pads can be easily added to existing clothing, such as a blazer or a shirt dress. – Audrey Curry, makeup artist and aspiring fashion designer
Deodorant and baby oil are your friends: If you want to avoid the crazy chub-rub between your legs, roll on deodorant or dab baby oil on your inner thighs. You’ll no longer have to wear biker shorts under your dresses! Keep travel sizes in your purse. It does tend to wear off throughout the day. – Tiffany Bank, plus-size model
Only wear what makes you happy: If you feel happy, you look happy. Want to wear hot pink lipstick or patent red leather heels? Go for it. Fashion is all about you and how you want to express yourself. I enjoy wearing crazy nail polish because I love colors and colors make me feel good! – Tiffany Bank, plus-size model
Do not try to hide your body under big, shapeless clothing: This approach never works. Even with all the material, we still know that you are plus-size. Now you just look frumpy! Instead, wear clothes that define the best parts of your body. Defining your waist with a belt, for example, can accentuate your curves. – Leslie Medlik, fashion stylist
Do not follow traditional plus-size fashion rules: A lot of plus-size fashion tips are outdated. Liberate yourself. Follow a few trends that you like and will keep your look current. If you like stripes, go for it. You can wear anything with confidence. Confidence is the key to having great style! – Leslie Medlik, fashion stylist
Do not be afraid of stores that don’t typically sell plus sizes: A lot of plus-size women shy away from mainstream stores, in fear that they will not carry clothes in their size. How do you know unless you go in and try? I am a huge fan of Anthrolopologie and can easily pull off a large dress made out of knit or jersey. I can also fit into their XL and L tops. Fit is more important than what the size says. Try everything on before you make the purchase. – Nikki Gomez, plus-size model
…but remember to support plus-size designers!: Most plus-size lines are created by plus-size women for plus-size women. These designers understand the issues we have with clothing, and they know that we want to look our best at any size. You have to dress the body you have now. If you embrace your curves and feel good about yourself, you will work even harder to achieve your personal body goals (or just realize how beautiful and sexy you already are!). Plus-size designer brand clothing is not only made for your body, but it also tends to be made better and last longer. – Nikki Gomez, plus-size model
The right undergarments are essential: Underwear are essential to dressing and significantly affect the overall look. It is extremely important to have on a great-fitting bra and beautiful panties. What is worn underneath will play a huge difference in the way you feel on the outside. – Heather Roach, wardrobe stylist and bra/bikini designer
Wear your clothes and do not let them wear you: Stand up tall and put your shoulders back. Good posture and confidence is everything. Be proud of who you are and respect yourself. Love your voluptuous curves and know your best features. – Heather Roach, wardrobe stylist and bra/bikini designer
I can’t remember when I started sewing, but when I was a kid my mom dedicated summers to teach me how to sew. I inherited the SINGER sewing machine my mom got as a wedding present when she got married. Of my friends, I have no doubt I have the oldest sewing machine of all. I win!
Even though my sewing machine is oldest of anyone I know, it is still very reliable. It continues to hem my pants, any ripped seams and do all sorts of other tricks.
On August 12, 2011, SINGER began celebrating its 160th anniversary, as marked by the issued patent of the first SINGER sewing machine by Isaac Merritt Singer on August 12, 1851. Until December of this year, you can share a story about your SINGERhere for a chance to win a limited edition sewing machine.
Now let’s get in my time machine, yes I have one, and take a look at some SINGER’s.
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a model? What about a plus size model? Well, you don’t have to wonder anymore. TLC has a new show all about ladies living in Manhattan and taking the city by charge in Big Sexy. Although the show premiered yesterday night, you can still continue to watch the series on Tuesday nights at 10 PM ET/PT.
We can’t all be on TV, but we can all be fashionistas. Here are some dresses from UniqueVintage for those with a little more umph.
I have known Kristine since high school. I can’t remember exactly how and when we met, but we hung out in the quads together. We reconnected over Facebook when she got engaged and ME&S were lucky enough to plan the little details of her and Michael’s wedding day.
We thought it was going to rain, so we had back-up plans for the first look. Luckily it only drizzled in the morning and we were able to do this amazing first look.
Bubba Gump was just a hop, skip and a jump away. Michael isn’t running in tennis shoes from his lovely bride, but he does have a box full of chocolates and is continuing to tell Kristine more cute stories. That’s the sort of thing I imagine always happens when someone is sitting on a bench with a box of chocolates.
A sting ray greets them with a friendly greeting and a big smile, before they take their vows.
I love this picture, because during rehearsal we practiced this exact part until everyone was comfortable. Here Mr. Encinas is making all the right moves and is cool as a sea cucumber.
Kristine had a plush custom-made cake topper. The bridal penguin’s bouquet matched Kristine’s.
Their theme and logo were present everywhere, even on the candy bar take home boxes.
Congratulations Kristine & Michael!! We had a swimming good time at your wedding.
